Is it really so odd to want to keep my 16th birthday "festivities" simple?

Everyone's (As in, my party-obsessed peers.) shocked that I just want to go to a nice dinner and day out with the family. I can catch up with friends and extended family before or after (My birthday's on Saturday.), I'm kind of in a weird place with my not-super-close friends right now, and I'm not a big fan of the traditional balloons-and-dancing party anyway (I considered picking a select few to cram into 2 minivans and doing a destination party, then realized I had plenty of road trips in my future 365 to begin with.), I figure the chunk of my parents' money I'd spend going all "Super Sweet 16" can be better spent on all the other awesomely fun stuff I have planned this year (big family vacations, plus bigger-than-the-town-mall adventures with friends, including having out-of-state friends visit more, taking up some new hobbies...), so, in conclusion, I just don't get what's so wrong that has people asking about why I feel like going small this year. It's not that I don't like birthdays or don't want to celebrate at all (I still do presents, cake... just more low-key.), I just don't buy into the whole "Sweet 16" thing. (Why not save the "champagne birthday" for when you're actually old enough for champagne? ...Yes, lame wordplay.)
