Why is my piercing still bothering me?

I pierced my own ear (the third hole on the lobe) over the summer. Its been a while and ive been using an earring from the piercing pagoda. It was all ok and i cleaned it regularly but its still a little sensitive. is that normal? what should i do? taking it out is NOT an option.
