Is Stephen Hawkins right? Could pencil geeks scientist fight and beat Preachers in a fair fight?

No lasers, no guns, no other weapons imagiable just hand to hand combat. Lol, I know most preachers are of stout stature and could probably beat the fear of God into them. Though I don't think Hawkins thinks the Sci fi's will use robots or other means of conjectures as an overview.
